Minutes of Planning Commission 3-10-09

Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairperson, Bob Utter.

 

Members present:  Dale Witt, Bob Utter, Lee Mohr, and Cheryl Benham.

 

Jimmy Colburn Absent – un-excused.

 

Agenda:          Witt motioned to accept March 10, 2009 agenda, seconded by Mohr.  Motion carried.

 

Minutes:         Mohr motioned to accept January 13, 2009 meeting minutes as amended, seconded by Witt.  Motion carried. 

 

Public Comments: There were none.

 

Public Hearings:         There were none.

 

Communications:

 

Authorities & Responsibilities of Mi Twp Officials, Boards and Commissions books were passed out to all members.

 

Sutton School group is continuing to update the Township Board on the status of Sutton School and the possibility of moving it.

 

There have been discussions about stimulus plan projects in the Township, these projects include road projects, updates to Township buildings and parks and an updated electronic emergency warning alarm system.

 

There has been discussion between the County and Raisin Township regarding the roads.  It was found that the County has the responsibility to upkeep all of the roads in the Township.

 

Discussion on MSU Extension upcoming conferences.  There are 8 upcoming conferences that MSU has relating to Planning.  If you are interested in any email Jasneet Sharma at sharmaj@msu.edu.

 

On March 31, 2009 there will be a Wind Energy Sitting and Policy Issues sponsored by MSU Extension if anyone is interested.

 

In the February 2009 issue of Michigan Planner there was an article about Right to Farm.

Unfinished Business

1.         Sign Ordinance

 

There was continued discussion about the sign ordinance.  Other municipality ordinances were looked at along with some “sign company” websites.  It was decided that the planning commission members should review a sample sign ordinance, Ypsilanti Township’s, and make changes on what they like and dislike, compare it to our ordinance and bring it to the next meeting.
